A Story of HOPE – Vanessa

A Story of HOPE – Vanessa

Vanessa, a single mother of three, was working two jobs to provide a stable home for her sons. During the height of the pandemic one of her employers shut down and she fell behind on rent. Not knowing how to exercise her rights, she was evicted from her home and had to move into a motel. Vanessa used her stimulus checks to cover the deposit and two months’ rent on a new apartment but needed to take on 2nd and 3rd jobs to afford rent moving forward. She has always worked hard to provide for her family and has been devastated by this turn of events. HOPE’s Case Managers were able to offer Vanessa food and rental assistance, resources for job placement for higher-paying employment, and education on how to work with landlords so she won’t be in this position again. She is still working three jobs and feeling the stress of catching up, but HOPE Case Managers will continue to work with Vanessa on her journey back to self-sufficiency.
